Today was our last DARE session with Officer Schimmell. The students received their DARE shirts and certificates. Afterwards, we introduced him to the Just Dance videos we often do at school on our Brain Breaks! We are happy he is still assigned to our building as our liaison officer, as well as Perry Heights!
We took a field trip to the FOP Camp for our DARE field trip. We watched a K-9 demonstration, a weapons demonstration that focused on real vs fake firearms, and had a discussion with a panel of students from Reitz. We also had time to just play outside in the unexpectedly nice weather! Here are some pictures:
Officer Schimmell gave each group a specific strategy of avoiding peer pressure and saying "no". They were given the task of writing a short scenario and acting it our for their classmates. After each one, they discussed all of the strategies used.
The students started the DARE program today! They will meet with Officer Schimmell every Wednesday for the first semester. The topics include dealing with peer pressure and bullying, making decisions, and consequences of your actions.
Today, they just spent time playing a game and talking with Officer Schimmell, allowing everyone to learn more about each other. |
