Invention Convention
The Invention Convention was open for all other grade levels to visit, as well as staff members, parents, and other visitors. The biome dioramas were on display, and tables were set up with the Inventions and display boards or websites. The students were available to explain their invention and answer questions. Here are a few pictures from that event (click for a larger view).
Grandparents Day
We kicked off the Invention Convention with our Grandparents Day event this year. We had about 200 guests attend, including grandparents, aunts and uncles, parents, and other important family members! (Even more visited throughout the rest of the day.) We started the program by showing the video below, in which students created video clips answering questions about their grandparents. We consolidated the clips into one video. The students also showed their visitors a "Grandparent Narrative" writing posted on the wall, where they were asked to write a story about their grandparents. The visitors were also shown the biome dioramas and the invention projects. Afterwards, students and visitors were able to enjoy refreshments.
Individual Projects
Every 5th grade student completed their own project. They were required to have an invention model/prototype, a display board or website, and tv/radio advertisement. You can browse through the projects below. The invention name is listed next to each student. If it is yellow, it is a link to their website. They are listed in alphabetical order by first name. You can click on the pictures for a larger view. All videos are linked through YouTube, including the radio advertisements.
