In this unit, students are expected to know the basic polygons: triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, and decagon. They need to be able to classify triangles according to their sides (scalene, isosceles, equilateral) and angles (acute, right, obtuse). They also need to be able to classify quadrilaterals based on their properties, including identifying a quadrilateral as a trapezoid, parallelogram, rhombus, rectangle, or square. Finally, students need to be able to identify and calculate the radius and diameter of a circle.
Included in this unit is some time to work with the appropriate tools for constructing these figures. Students will use protractors and compasses to create specific shapes.
