The science unit for the second grading period will be the Human Body. More specifically, we will be studying the musculoskeletal system: the bones, muscles, joints, and coordination. The first lesson will consist of studying how the bones in our body are arranged to form our skeleton. They will count the bones in the body, and then begin learning the proper names of the main bones in the body. Later in this section, they will dissect an owl pellet, and then reconstruct the skeleton of the rodent. Towards the end, they will have activities that show the importance of joints, and learn about the different types of joints. Finally, they will have a few lessons on stimulus/response and coordination. They will have a quiz on the last day (Monday, November 21) that will cover the purpose of the skeleton, the major bones, types of joints, and a few other bits from our activities.
