This week, the students will start a project on Native American groups. This will cover Chapter 2 in the textbook. Although they will work with partners or small groups to find information and pictures, they will each submit their own project at the end of the unit for an INDIVIDUAL grade.
The students will be choosing from a list of Native American groups and create a flipbook. We will be creating the flipbook in class, and the students will be given labels for each section. They will be given an organizer to track their information as we work through the unit, and will also be given guidelines as to what should be included in each section. Although the majority of this will be completed in class, they will be allowed to do research and find pictures at home if they choose. A picture, illustration, or drawing will be a requirement for each section. The netbooks the students use are not connected to a printer at school, so they will not be able to print the pictures unless they are able to use a printer outside of school. If the students prefer to type the notes included in their organizer at the end of the unit, print them, and bring them to school to glue into the flipbook, that is allowed. Otherwise they will write the information.
If the students forget which group they chose, you can see the signup list here.
The flipbooks are due Thursday, October 9. Here is the rubric that will be used for grading:
